Annual St. Stephens Day Football Match

It was the game that had it all- the come back, dodgy football skills, dodgy goals, dodgy points and even dodgier refereeing decisions. Players from the clubs junior and minor football and hurling teams as well as club members took to the field in Hunters Run on a beautiful day for football. The Married team surged into the lead with the singles coming back in the second half to retain the bragging rights. Regardless of the result everyone had a great day and thanks to Sean Flood for organising.

                                          Under 10s  Hurling

Hunters Run was the venue and Raheny were the opponents. A decision was made on the morning to try to balance the 2 teams. Oran O Hara and Joe Humphreys made the move to the Green team and Sean Vickers and Glen Campion made the move in the opposite direction to try to bring more shape to the White team. It worked well with both teams much more dynamic and balanced in their movement. The White team played with more width and attacked in groups and worked hard. The Green team played very direct and skilful hurling. Captains for the day were Aoife O’Sullivan who took charge of the Greens and Curtis King took charge of the White team. Aoife has been impressive in her skills and on pitch organisation and encouragement of her team mates and gives everything she has in training and games alike. Curtis resumed Captaincy of the White team this week after a one week break and the team play very well when he is Captain. He has come on immensely in the past two and a half years. The green team started their game today playing into a very strong wind and had to absorb a lot of pressure in the first half. They came in trailing at the half time break. The second half was a different game for the EGB Green team. The Quick Touch sliotar carried well in the wind and, with it behind the Erin Go Bragh players, they quickly realised that they could strike for scores from long range. With some direct hurling they worked their way back to level the game and eventually see out a good and hard fought 2 goal win.

The Green Team Aoife O’Sullivan (Captain), Matthew Nitoi, Matthew Madigan, Darren Daly, Jack Flood, James Padden, Joe Humphreys & Oran O’Hara.

The white team had to deal with a cross wind and although they fell behind by 3 skill points at the beginning of the game they made all the plays but struggled to put the ball between the posts. They kept their heads up and eventually, after they found that elusive first score, the flood gates opened for them. The team kept their shape, tackled and worked hard. The picked off some great long range points and when the opportunities came for goals they took them. The score line showed their dominance and they finished off 22 points clear of their opposition.

WHITE TEAM :Curtis King (Captain), Amy Carroll, Cian Ford, Glen Campion, Lee Doyle, Sean Vickers & Gary Whelan

.                                   Erin Go Bragh Player of The Week

Player of the week this week was an impossible task to decide between both U10’s teams. We spoke to both referees, mentors and parents and have to put forward 2 players:

From our A team we nominate Jack Flood. From our B team we nominate Cian Ford.

Both players are in Mary Mother of Hope SNS in 3rd Class and both are in Ms. Keane’s class. Ms. Keane’s class makes up almost half of the Erin Go Bragh U10’s. Jack played fantastic hurling striking the sliotar on both sides, closed down players and helped his team, with some great scores and very stylish hurling, to come from behind to win a really tough game in blustery conditions. He worked forward and back with great energy. Cian played the second half in midfield and excelled in the engine room. He drove forward through the opposition when he had the sliotar and supported his team mates when they were going forward. He also worked tirelessly back when he was needed and contributed with 2 goals and 2 points. Both Jack and Cian came through the Erin Go Bragh Nursery.

Well done to all our underage teams in action over the weekend. Hard luck to our U12s V Ballyboden/St. Endas, pictures of the game are up on facebook and will be posted to the website later in the week

On the beautiful Saturday morning 25th May the U10's once again displayed their silky skills. This time it was their hurling skills on show against a good Parnell’s side in Chanel Park, Coolock. Both games were hard fought with plenty of scores and goalmouth action. It was impossible to single any one player for Erin Go Bragh, as the entire team gave 100% and worked tirelessly right to the final whistle. Hopefully we'll see many more games like them.

We hope all our young members who were making their first holy communion and their families had a great weekend.

Report from The U11 Girls football match Last Saturday evening in Drumnigh v Trinity Gaels. Due to communions, dancing and illness only 9 players from the U11 Girls team of Erin Go Bragh set off to face a very strong Trinity Gaels team in Drumnigh yesterday evening. It was a warm evening but with a strong breeze blowing straight down the pitch it was definitely a game of 2 halves. Erin Go Bragh played with the breeze in first half and after a sluggish start the gamecaught fire with 3    quickfire points from Evelyn Osunde, one fisted effort a free and an outstanding kick from all of 40 yards. Evelyn and Anna Omotayo controlled midfield for the rest of the half and Erin Go Bragh went in at halftime 6 points to 1 in front. Jade Omotayo came out of goal for the second half and was replaced firstly by Abbie Thomas and then Ellie Manning. All 3 played their part in keeping Trinity Gaels at bay. Trinity Gaels started the second half at a ferocious pace and scored 2 quick points and the game was on. Wave after wave of attacks saw the Erin Go Bragh defence put under fierce pressure but sterling work from Aoife O'Sullivan, Rachel Murray Connie McGowan and Keri Redmond limited Trinity on the scoreboard. The game was in the melting pot until a break saw Abbie Thomas fist over the insurance score. The 9 players were exhausted after the game but what a performance from the 9 heroes to maintain their unbeaten record this year.

Final Score Erin Go Bragh 21 pts Trinity Gaels 15pts

Well done to our Under 10 footballers who were very impressive on Saturday. All their hard work paid off with some very skilful football on display in Hunters Run v Trinity Gaels. Fantastic movement and use of space from both side led to a very enjoyable match indeed. Both teams created chances and even though Trinity Gaels were more clinical in front of goal Erin Go Bragh remained neck and neck with the opposition, with lots of skill points, for high catch, in every area of the pitch and some well taken goals and points.

Hard luck to our Under 14 hurlers who went out at the group stages on their feile special thanks to the Team Mentors Sean Flood, Paul Crowe & George Burke and all who have helped out with the Feile over the last month.

Congratulations to our Under 14 feile camogie team who have won the division 5 feile on Sunday morning in O'Toole Park beating Setanta in the final.

Word from the Ladies Chairperson (Maria Padden) :

When the date of the Camogie Feile was announced earlier in the year it was not expected that the club would be in a position to defend last year’s title due to Confirmation, but today 7 girls from the u12’s team came to the rescue, making their Feile debut, along with 9 girls from the u15’s team. And what a day that turned out to be. The venue Parnells Gaa club in Coolock and the first match saw Setanta going ahead early with a goal. A goal and a point later by Niamh Padden meant EGB won the first game by just a point. Within minutes the girls were onto their second match which was against last year’s losing finalists. The girls were out to prove a point, but it was going to be a tough game as the girls have been beaten by this team twice last season in the league. But the girls played their hearts out and showed brilliant team work and following goals by Jessica Carroll and Niamh Padden proved that they were the better team on the day.

Round Towers was the opposition for the next match which moved onto the Astro pitch and proved to be a difficult match, Erin Go Bragh went ahead with a point by Jessica Carroll followed by some very unlucky wide balls. Eventually persistence paid off and following a great goal by Aoibhinn Burke, the whistle blew and the girls had won their third match.

As this point there was just one match left against Na Fianna B, it was almost a formality at this point as the girls had reached the Final. But with some great play and fancy footwork the girls finished off the day unbeaten 6-1 to 0-0, with 4 goals from Alex Comey, one each from Amy Flanagan and Niamh Paddenand a point from Jessica Carroll.

The sun was certainly shining on the EGB team today! Congratulations to all the players and mentors, and huge thanks to the parents for all the support on the day. Final took place against Setanta at 9:30 am on Sunday morning in O Toole Park Crumlin.
