Under 16 Ladies Football Team Claim League with Great Win

Erin Go Bragh 6-5

St. Finians/St. Margarets 2-4

The Under 16 ladies football team went into this game on Friday night knowing that a win would see them clinch the league. Their opposition was second placed St. Finians/St. Margarets who have been the only team to beat the girls to date. It was the visitors who got off to the brighter start scoring a goal and a point. The referee stopped the game as some of the visiting players had no gum shields but once sorted the game continued. St. Finians/St. Margarets continued to enjoy the upper hand in the opening stages and added another point to their end of the scoreline. Erin Go Bragh eventually settled into the game and responded strongly with 2-4 without reply from the visitors. The score at half time was Erin Go Bragh 2-4 St. Finians/St. Margarets 1-2.

The home side continued where they had left off with 2 goals and could have easily had a third hitting the post. The Saints added a point in reply before there was another goal from the hosts. St. Finians/St. Margarets goalkeeper came to their rescue with a great safe. A goal mouth scramble resulted in the Saints pulling a goal back as they continued to put pressure on a resilient Go Bragh defence who were up to the job. Another two goals from Erin Go Bragh removed any doubt that St. Finians/St. Margarets could get back into the game and ensured that the ladies would be crowned league champions. Final score Erin Go Bragh 6-5 St. Finians/St. Margarets 2-4.
