School Camogie: Colaiste Pobail Setanta v Loretto Beaufort

Colaiste Pobail Setanta Camogie Claim Junior Shield

Colaiste Pobail Setanta 2-4

Loretto, Beaufort 2-0

Erin Go Bragh Senior Ladies Camogie players contributed to the successful win that Colaiste Pobail Setanta had against Loretto Beaufort in the schools Dublin Junior C shield final last Friday the 21st of March.

Loretto won the toss and decided to play with the wind, which played a big factor on the day, and it was a tactic that worked well for them in the first half. For the opening ten minutes the game was pretty even but Loretto pushed hard and put the first goal past the Setanta keeper. Setanta replied shortly and scored their first point from a superbly taken free from Alanaha Kenny. The Loretto girls were well up for this game and pushed Setanta well in to the last few minutes of the first half finding  the back of the net again. However Setanta rallied in the dying seconds and with a fantastic display of skill and passing from Sally O'Brien, Aoife Padden and Rachel Carr the sliotar was put into the back of the Loretto net narrowing the deficit somewhat before the half time whistle went.

Half time beckoned and with a stern talk from their Coach Miss Hartigan the Setanta girls returned to the pitch with a new determination and drive. This was evident from the opening minutes as the girls scored two successive points drawing both teams level for the first time since the beginning of the match. Once again to their credit the Loretto girls pushed but The Setanta defence of Sorcha Donohue and Shauna Farrell held firm .With a powerful puck out from the Setanta keeper Taylor Whelan  the sliotar found its way to midfield and was flicked on by Katie O'Mahoney to the corner forwards who found the back of the Loretto net and with the clock ticking down another fantastic free found its way between the Loretto posts  pushing the score line past the Loretto team to end the game with a final score of 2-4 to 2-0 in favour of Setanta. This was a fantastic achievement for the school and the squad as its their first year fielding a team at a competitive level in any tournament  so well done to all involved .
