Man O’War 1-9
Erin Go Bragh 0-11
Our junior football travelled out to Balrothery on Sunday where Man O’War were the opposition. It was both teams first competitive league game of 2014 and turned out to be a very close and competitive encounter. It was Erin Go Bragh who opened the scoring with Paul Agnew and JB Jones putting the visitors ahead by two points with Man O’War eventually clawing it back to 2 points apiece. Boths sides went point for point up to half time with George Chis, Mick Moroney and JB jones all contributing. The sides went in t half time level at 6 points each but Erin Go Bragh could have easily been in the lead had their shooting been a bit more accurate.
It was the visitors who started the second half the brighter and at one point were three points in the lead. But a goal and two quick points in succession turned the game to Man O’Wars favour. The home team went into a four point lead and the visitors put in an amazing fight back to reduce the deficit to one point, but unfortunately time was against them and it was Man O’War who open the league season with a win.
Benjy Stephens and selectors George Burke and Willie Redmond will still be pleased with the overall team performance with the team creating plenty of chances and frustrating the Man O’War forward line as well. The attitude and work rate shown by the team to chase down the home side 4 point lead is also an encouraging sign at this stage of the season.
