Under 15 Camogie Team Come Out Top in Thriller
Erins Isle 3-5
Erin Go Bragh 4-5
What a game!!!! The girls travelled out to Finglas this morning where they knew they were in for a tough encounter with the hosts Erins Isle. After a few narrow escapes early on the EGB girls settled down and produced a stirring first half performance. A strong defensive performance from super goalie Rachel Murray and the back five of Keri Redmond, Aoibhinn Burke, Amy Carroll, Katie Kearney captain Leah Ivory kept Erins Isle out and gave a platform to the forwards to lead at half time by 1-3 to no score.
Everyone knew Erins Isle would come storming back in the second half and this was the case as they got the first score of the half. The EGB girls got a grip again and stretched their lead to 8 points with scores from Ellen Gribben and Aoife O'Sullivan. An injury to Amy Daly disrupted the EGB rhythm and Erin Isle took advantage to reduce arrears to the minimum 3 points. But the spirit of the EGB girls was evident in abundance with Amy Daly going back on to tear into the opposition and Amy Flanagan who was playing under the weather but giving every ounce of effort she had. Ellen Gribben was a dynamo around the middle and Aoibhe Kearney and Ellie Manning fought bravely for every ball and made life difficult for the Isles defence. In a heart stopping finish there was a goal for EGB, Erins Isle hit back with a goal, a goal line clearance for EGB and a tip over the bar by keeper Rachel Murray. Then EGB broke up the pitch and a chance to put 4 points in it from a free but it was cleared by Isles but the defence cut out the danger from Isles and secured a great victory by 3 points. Great feeling to sit top of the league.
