Under 14 Footballers Dig Deep to Defeat Harps
Skerries Harps 6-9
Erin Go Bragh 11-5
The EGB under 14 girls team summoned all their grit and determination to dig out a great victory in Skerries on Sunday. After their camogie endeavours a short time earlier it took a while for the girls to settle by which time Skerries were 1-4 to no score ahead. After having an earlier goal controversially ruled out Aoife O'Sullivan got EGB on the scoreboard with a goal. However the EGB girls were finding it hard to contain the Skerries running game and the hosts went on to lead by 7 points. Then true to their never say die attitude the EGB girls scored a hat trick of goals to lead at the break by 2 points.
However Skerries had a different score at the break claiming one of their points was a goal instead of a point so this changed the score to a draw. This obvious injustice served to be a motivation for the EGB girls in the second half to storm on to a super win. There was wuper scores from both teams but the ability of the EGB girls to get goals was the difference as they ran out 11 point winners. Great displays from the midfield engine room of Keri Redmond Leah Ivory and Ellen Gribben tremendous defensive work by Amy Carroll Rachel Murray Megan Owens and Aoibhinn Burke. Add to that super forward play from Ellie Manning Katie Kearney Aoife O'Sullivan and Abbie Murray and a super goalkeeping performance from Aoibhe Kearney lead to a memorable victory.
Team: A Kearney, A Carroll, R Murray, A Murray, A Burke, K Redmond, L Ivory (capt) (0-1), E Gribben (7-0), A O'Sullivan (4-4), M Owens, E Manning, K Kearney (1-1)
