Under 14 Ladies Footballers Get Championship off to Good Start
Erin Go Bragh 8-8
The EGB under 14 footballers made a winning start to their championship campaign with a 14 point win away to Cuala. The margin of victory doesn't reflect how close the game was as it ebbed back and forth on an energy sapping warm evening in Cuala. The sides went in a halftime with the EGB girls holding a slender 3 point lead. The lead was due mainly to the brilliant defending of the EGB girls and taking the few chances which came to the forwards. Halftime score was EGB 2-4 Cuala 2-1.
The second half saw a tactical switch to curb the influence of a strong Cuala midfield and give our strong ball carriers the freedom to run at the Cuala defence. This worked and proved the winning of the game. The forwards converted more in the second half and scored some cracking goals. However Cuala were always a threat and never let the EGB girls get too comfortable and were always dangerous in attack. The EGB girls stood strong in defence and held on for a great victory. 2 more group games follow the next 2 Friday's but the girls have given themselves a platform to give this championship a real shot. Well done girls. Final score EGB 8-8 Cuala 4-6.
