Junior Hurling v Setanta

Hurlers Loose out to Setanta in Tight Affair

Erin Go Bragh 3-8

Setanta 2-15

Erin Go Bragh hurlers welcomed Setanta to St. Catherines Park last Sunday for their opening league game. The visitors got off to a dream start with a goal from a half blocked effort. Erin Go Bragh responded strongly however scoring 5 points without reply. Setanta were made work hard for their scores adding on a few points. However the hosts struck back with a Glenn Gately goal. At half time Erin Go Bragh were leading by a single point with the scoreline reading 1-9 to 1-8.

There was very little between either side and it was clear to both teams that the first ten minutes of the second half were going to be pivotal. Setanta started the half the brighter and for the opening ten minutes of the half scored 6 unanswered points. Two frees from Damien O’Donoghue kept the hosts in touch but they could never reel back the deficit. A second goal from Glenn Gately brought Erin Go Bragh closer to Setanta but the visiting team responded with scores of their own to reinstate their lead. The sides matched each other point for point and in the closing stages goal for goal. But it wasn’t to be the hurlers day.

Team: G Dalton, K Scanlon, J Monaghan (M O’Callaghan), J Cullen, C Dolan, P Henderson, M Duffy, L Kenny (0-1), D McDermott, E Walsh, D O’Donoghue (0-6), P Kirby (0-1), G Gately(2-0), P Kelly (K Kenny (1-0)), T Reddan.
