Under 14 Camogie Win Championship Final in Style
Erin Go Bragh 5-5
On a perfect day for camogie in the Phoenix Park the EGB girls arrived with a determination in their eyes. They were slight favourites for the Under 14 D championship and from the throw in they justified their favouritism by racing into a 3 goal lead within the first 10 minutes. The full forward line of captain Aoife O'Sullivan Aoife Cullen and Aoibhe Kearney did all the early damage. The platform for this early dominance was provided by Niamh Maher and Amy Daly in midfield and an excellent half forward line of Ellen Gribben Leah Ivory and Ellie Manning. The dominance of the first half continued with another goal from Aoife O'Sullivan and an outrageous hand passed goal from about 20 yards from Niamh Maher. The half back line of Amy Flanagan, Aoibhinn Burke and Keri Redmond cut out any possible threats from Raheny in the first half. The fullback line of Rachel Murray, Amy Carroll and Megan Owens and keeper Katie Kearney had little to do in the first half but were always ready to deal with anything that came their way. Halftime score was EGB 5-2 Raheny 0-0.
EGB introduced Anna and Jade Omotayo for the second half and made some positional changes. Raheny started the second half with great enthusiasm and started to ask questions of EGB. This energy was rewarded with a goal but EGB responded well and ensured another goal didn't follow. The work rate form Amy Daly, Niamh Maher and Ellen Gribben ensured EGB drove on and responded in the rest of the half with 3 unanswered points to see the EGB girls ran out winners on a scoreline of 5-5 to 1-0.
The EGB girls were superb and a credit to their parents and managers Jerry O'Sullivan and Linda Cullen who had broad grins on their faces at the end. Captain Aoife O'Sullivan accepted the cup on a historic day for EGB and the cheers echoed all over the Phoenix Park. Thanks to Raheny for a great game. Well done to the EGB players for the big effort they put in the last few weeks and to Jerry & Linda for guiding them to this great achievement.
