Hurlers Get Championship Off To Winning Start

The Erin Go Bragh junior hurlers got their championship campaign off to a winning start on Sunday in Tymon Park. The visitors started the brighter going into a two point lead. The hosts opened their account with a point which could have easily been a goal and indeed looked threatening in front of goal in the opening exchanges. A point from a free followed by a goal put Judes into the lead. Erin Go Bragh had chances to close the gap but couldn’t hit the target. The hosts had the upper hand midway through the half and were more clinical in front of goal with only a single wide in the half compared to the visitors eight. Go Bragh stayed in touch though and at half time there was only a goal in it, the scoreline reading 1-6 to 0-6 in favour of St. Judes.
Erin Go Bragh started the second half brightly hitting three points without reply. Judes responded with two points of their own but were to remain scoreless for the next fifteen minutes. A goal from the visitors brought them on alevel pegging and a further three unanswered points put Erin Go Bragh into the lead. St. Judes eventually got scoring again with a point and with ten minutes to go went looking for a goal to clinch the tie. However the Erin Go Bragh defence withstood the onslaught. St. Judes thought they had the goal they needed in injury time but it was adjudged to be a square ball. With thirty five minutes on the clock the referee blew the full time whistle and Erin Go Bragh march on with the points.
