Goals Win The Game For AIB
Erin Go Bragh 0-7
Erin Go Bragh opened their junior E championship campaign off with a tough tie against AIB on Sunday. The game originally scheduled for AIBs home ground of DCU St. Claires was played in Hazelbury Park after DCU was declared unplayable on Friday evening.
It was the visiting team who opened the scoring and extended their lead to three points in the opening 15 minutes. Erin Go Bragh eventually got a score on the board 20 minutes into the game but had they been a bit more clinical in front of goal this may not have been the case. The hosts eventually settled into the game and for the final ten minutes placed the bankers under pressure to reduce the deficit to a point at half time.
Just like the St. Monicas game it would appear that half time was Go Braghs worst enemy as they lost the momentum they had gained late in the first half with AIB starting the second half brighter. The two sides traded scores until an AIB goal put some daylight between the sides. Erin Go Bragh tried hard to reduce the deficit but couldn’t convert enough of their chances and a late second goal sealed the points for the visitors in a game where the saying goals win games was certainly true.
