Football Feile Team Do The Club Proud
A defiant and unbowed Erin Go Bragh under14 football team stood before the main stand in Peregrines on Sunday as gallant runners up to St James Gaels in the 2015 Feile Peil Na nOg Final. Both teams were unbeaten from Saturday's group games with Erin go Bragh having dispatched St Mary's, Craobh Chiarain and host's Man o'War in the group stages. Later on Saturday afternoon 'Go Bragh played local D15 team Castleknock in a tightly contested semi-final that saw 'Go Bragh overcome a half time deficit to win the game with a last minute goal from top scorer Ross Maher sealing a famous 1 point win. Great celebrations followed the final whistle as the players and the supporters who supported the team all day realised that the lads would appear in the final on Sunday morning.
Over the course of Saturday the team lead by example by Brian O'Sullivan played some very good football, defending strongly, attacking quickly and with intent to rack up 15-22 and conceding 6-19. Top scorers on Saturday were Ross Maher 5-1, Jack Carroll 3-0, Brian O'Sullivan 2-1 & Fiach Johnson 0-5. In fact over the 5 games of the weekend 14 of the 22 players scored. Special mention goes to Mark O'Brien and Eoin Kinsella who played every minute of the 5 games. Stand out performances over the 4 Saturday games came from captain Brian O'Sullivan, player of the tournament Kenny Omatayo as well as Adam Dalton, Jonathan Youman, Fiach Johnson, Ross Maher, Jack Carroll, Josh Clarke & Conor Gorman.
Sunday morning brought great excitement, anticipation as well as composure to the Erin Go Bragh dressing room in advance of the final as the players relished the thoughts of playing on a local ground in front of a large crowd of supporters against a team that had won all of their previous matches well. Starting with a strong breeze the local team dominated the first half without being able to convert that into a match winning lead. 'Gaels opened the second half with a 2 goal salvo that unfortunately proved too much for 'Go Bragh to overcome despite a late rally that resulted in a late goal and a flurry of half goal chances. Stand out performers in the form man of the match Fiach Johnson (0-5), Jon Youman (1-1), Jack Carroll (0-1), Adam Dalton & Kenny Omatayo
