Erin Go Bragh camogie Team Reach Final
On Saturday the Erin Go Bragh girls set off for Na Fianna Collinstown to take part in the 2016 Division 5 Camogie Feile Division 5. With only had 14 players it would be a difficult challenge with tough 3 group matches in store at the very least.
the girls started their Group A campaign with a match v Round Towers Clondalkin where they dominated restricting Towers to a single score with the final scoreline reading 7-2 to 1-0. Their second game was against Kevins but again the EGB girls rose to the challenge and apart from a few lapses of concentration ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 6-4 to 2-0.
The girls went into the last game of the group against Kilmacud Crokes knowing that they were through to the semi finals, but a win would guarantee top spot. The girls were on top early on and got some early scores but Kilmacud came back strongly and but for some fine defensive work the halftime score would have been closer. The girls started to show some tiredness but battled hard leading at halftime by 3-2 to 2-0. They dug deep and produced a strong second half performance to keep Kilmacud scoreless and win 6-4 to 2-0. Unbeaten and top ofntheir group the girls were to face hosts Na Fianna in their semi final.
The first half was keenly contested with EGB the better team leading at halftime by 2-1 to 1-0. However the girls were clearly beginning to show the signs of tiredness and Na Fianna had played 30 minutes less hurling. In a frantic last 10 minutes Na Fianna came strong and some heroic defending and a break away goal for the super EGB girls meant a place in the final place on a final score 4-3 to 3-1.
Erin Go Bragh were originally scheduled to play Crumlin in the final in O’Toole Park at 9 on Sunday morning. However an objection against a Crumlin player was lodged by both Na Fianna and the other loosing semi finalists. It had been originally hoped that the matter would be resolved in time for the final to take place but this was not to be the case. The final will now take place on a later date to be confirmed.
The Erin Go Bragh feile team would like to thank Monica Flanagan and Jackie Maher who helped organise the team and attend to injuries, to Niamh Maher and Amy Flanagan who kept the water flowing, to Martin Carroll and George Burke for great umpiring, to chairman Linda Cullen for her support all day and lastly to all the supporters on the day and well wishers.
